After spending the majority of first semester junior year researching the importance of Disability Education for general education students, it was time to put all of my newly-learned knowledge into action. I designed a three-day disability education intensive curriculum for first and second graders at my former elementary school. The curriculum explored disability as an aspect of identity, introduced students to a variety of disabilities, and concluded with lessons on inclusion and communication.

To ensure the program was as impactful as possible, I collaborated with special education and disability education experts nationwide including representatives from The Nora Project and Changing Perspectives. The curriculum consisted of picture books, videos, group activities, partner activities, and many interactive opportunities to keep students engaged. By the final lesson of the program, each student was equipped to create their own inclusion pledge–-demonstrating their new understanding and unique perspectives.
