High Five Choir is the inclusive choir at New Trier Township High School. This means it is made up of students of all abilities, a combination of general education and special education students. Everyone communicates and participates differently in High Five, and we do so much more than just sing the lyrics of the song. We use American Sign Language (ASL) to sign songs, play accessible instruments like shakers, tambourines, and (my favorite) kazoos. And we dance! Every quarter I am paired up with a new special education student, and we support each other in rehearsals learning the songs and signs, and then in our big performances! High Five is always a highlight of my day, and I truly look forward to this time where I get to be completely myself with all of my people.
